I've been very interested in Paul Cézanne 's work lately. I especially like his still life paintings and he's inspired me to do some of my own.
Why are still life compositions so interesting? I mean when you think about it apples and pears are pretty boring. And yet I can't help arranging them and rearranging them into new compositions. It's a nice de-stress exercise to paint still lifes. And it's nice to take a break from my normal comic illustration work and think about classic academic concerns like composition, color, value, and technique. When I paint still life I feel like a classic artist. It's a nice feeling. I'd like to do some in oils but water color is all I can afford right now.
Please enjoy these arrangements of apples, oranges, mangos, teapots, and a brush.
